Celebrating “Negroni Week” in the Wee Cottage

It’s the most wonderful time of the year: Negroni Week!

You may be asking, “What is a Negroni?  And why does it have it’s own week?”  Well, a Negroni is a classic cocktail, with a somewhat mysterious and unverifiable history involving a thirsty Count, a talented barman and the right amount of inspiration.  As for this delicious cocktail having it’s own week, there is only one answer for that question…and it is that Campari has a massive marketing budget and very smart brand managers.

All business aside – what you really need to know about the Negroni is that it’s delicious year round, something in our opinion only a couple cocktails can really claim. It’s also the most famous 1:1:1 cocktail recipe, and thanks to that 1:1:1 ratio of the ingredients – it’s so easy, anyone can make it regardless of cocktail experience.

Today we made the classic recipe, but never be afraid to add a few dashes of bitters.

 Classic Negroni Recipe

  • 1 oz London Dry Gin
  • 1 oz Sweet Vermouth
  • 1 oz Campari
  • Delicious option: add 3 dashes Hella Bitters Ginger Lemon
  • Orange Peel for garnish

Combine ingredients in a mixing glass, add ice and stir gently for 10 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass over ice. Roll an orange peel skin side down over the drink to release it’s essential oils then stir the peel into the cocktail. So good.
